Isn't God's aim to produce true happiness in the lives of His children? Wasn't that what Jesus was referring to when He said, "I have said these things to you so that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete. (John 15:11). Could generous living be the heart of that complete joy? People live generously because it helps achieve God's purposes in themselves. Generous living involves your heart, the foundation of your happiness. Generosity is not a spiritual attribute one acquires accidentally “ it often takes work and sacrifice.
New Hartford First United Methodist Church provides a unique opportunity to LIVE generously in our community and the world. First and foremost our church and pastoral staff seek to nourish our souls, deepen our faith, and bring others to know the gospel of Jesus Christ. Our Christian Education team teaches our children and adults to help us grow in our understanding of what it means to be a Christian. Our Mission Team provides many needed outreach opportunities particularly with our seniors. And now, through the "RevItUp initiative, we would like to align and grow those efforts to make them even more effective. And last, but not least, our Conference and UMCOR provide us the opportunity to extend our reach to the nation and the world where ever there is a need.
Financially we are not without our challenges. We have not met our full shared ministry obligations for some time, and this year we have had to cut back some budget items and utilize reserves in order to narrow our budget gap. Our target for 2016 Operating Pledges is $185,000 with a goal of $190,000 to allow us to better meet our obligations and allow the "RevItUp process to proceed unencumbered. An average giver increase of $4.00 per week, or about 8%, would help meet this goal.
